Richard C. Peters 1945 - 2021
It is with great sadness that we inform the North Topsail Beach community of the peaceful passing of Alderman Richard Peters on April 2nd. Born on August 12, 1945 in Fort Gay, West Virginia, Mr. Peters and his wife Rose “retired” to North Topsail Beach where he began a distinguished second career in public service.
A U.S. Army veteran, Richard Peters worked for 30 years as a bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Company. The discipline required by that career served him well as he contributed to the Town of North Topsail Beach as a member of the Planning Board, the Board of Adjustment, and the Board of Aldermen from 2004 to the present day. He also served as a town representative to the Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Committee.
Richard was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area – an organization which is dedicated to “improving the world one child and one community at a time.” He certainly improved this community during his tenure here, and in recognition of his leadership and devotion to the Town of North Topsail Beach and the State of North Carolina, the North Topsail Beach Town Park was renamed the Richard C. Peters Town Park in his honor.
Donations in Mr. Peters' memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
