8/22/25 8:30AM UPDATE

As of 10:00am today, Richard Peters Park and the 4x4 Drive on area will be re-opened.  Onslow County Beach Access will also re-open.  Please continue to be mindful of rip currents!  Life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone.

8/21/25 11:30AM UPDATE

Overall, after a quick assessment this morning, NTB has fared well so far. Of course, we will continue to monitor, and the county will be deploying their drone tomorrow to capture post storm conditions along the beach. Our engineers will be completing a dashboard survey tomorrow to determine if further surveys are necessary. An area noted this morning was Topsail Dunes, Building 3 which had some small dune loss and over wash. This area is where we paused PTC #8 work in the spring and will be picking back up in the fall to place some more sand and continuing with the project.

  • • Rip Current Risks remain HIGH – Ocean waters remain very dangerous!
  • • Richard Peters Park, 4X4 Drive on areas, and Onslow County Beach Accesses will remain closed today
  • • Roadways are dry and passable
  • • Public Works has removed some debris from the beach
  • • Confirmation has been made with GFL that pick-ups for trash and recycling service were completed yesterday

We will continue to provide updates, as necessary. Be aware and be safe!
