Staff has been monitoring the pending winter weather throughout this week and preparing.  What we are doing:

  • Monitoring and preparations will continue through Friday – Water has been shut off and pipes secured at Richard Peters Park, equipment checks, fuel and propane top offs, and equipment will be staged at necessary facilities for emergency vehicles Friday.
  • Contact made with NCDOT maintenance – Brining is in progress today.
  • Effective Saturday through Sunday –  Richard Peters Park, Rodney Knowles Park, the 4x4 Drive on area, and Jeffries Beach Access will be closed.  Staff will evaluate conditions early Monday morning.
  • Our drone will be deployed Sunday afternoon to assess roadways and facilities while also having essential staff reporting to provide essential services and communicate conditions.

We are anticipating this winter event to impact our area. Please be prepared and refrain from unnecessary traveling on roadways throughout this event until conditions clear.  It is advised to bring all pets indoors and be mindful of having a clear space around space heaters.
